Concert on the 2nd

There is this concert on the 2nd May. With Fazal Qureshi - brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain, Fantastic Mridangam player Shridhar Parthasarathy and Ravi Iyer a cracking guitar player.


Am very much lloking forward for it, Its always great to perform with brilliant musicians....

Bangalore in Rains....

So am here in Bangalore with V, and V is with her iPad 2 ! I haven't seen her since then. Never knew girls are techno freaks! I guess there should be a name change now... V to Vi.


Absolutely brilliant weather here and am just enjoying it. Just took a small tour to a friends place in the morning... I guess there are more speed breakers on the road than humans :(


Now off to siesta.... precious thing in life.... :)

Movies.... And the art of convincing !!

Am sitting in a room in Panchagani, waiting for them to call me on sets. It's a night shot and I might be called at midnight too!


Well, there is this movie where the main lead character plays flute and they want me to make him look convincing on the screen!! Also I am composing and playing all the flute parts in the movie .. :) 


Already I have given him a few sessions about how to hold flute and in this process I too noticed many things I hadn't before!!!
The idea is that the the person playing the lead should't look stupid to musicians who will watch the movie! Common man mostly wont see much difference any way! 


Let's see how it goes!!

Recording Classical... :)

Wish me luck. Am recording some classical music tomorrow. Hope it will go off great! I dont have any good recordings actually. The latest would be perhaps from 2004! 
I have been planning for this recording for some time now and am so much travelling, that  it kept postponing and postponing!
So Wish Me Luck please ..... :)

Preservation of old recordings!

Have got hold of some old cassettes! Now am transferring cleaning and editing them! Should be fun. 


What I have heard is that these noise reduction softwares were originally used by NASA and american universities in 60s and 70s for cleaning the noise in the signals coming from space! Now the technology is in our studios! 


I think Ford Foundation had given lacks and lacks of rupees donation for the projects of preserving old recordings! Now we do it at home studios! At least till a reasonably listenable state!


Computer of today certainly changed the music world !!

Yesterdays Concert .. !

Yesterday there was a concert for some Japanese company. And it HAD to start on time.... "Why bother about 5-10 minutes when you are here to enjoy? " wasn't apparently a convincing argument to the Japanese !

They had some nice sound and some lights around on the stage which I guess no one knew what to do with! Sound was okish, In any case everytime you have to get it done your way!

They also had a full wall - huge wall of LCDs behind us on the stage and they kept showing some visuals and live cameras on it.... was interesting!

Kushal had come specifically to shoot our concert and we kept on arguing Linux v/s Windows throughout, Finally we setteled on cursing Apple and both were happy! He got some great images - but mostly of the dancing girls and the compere; who also was a Bengali and they simply loved talking in Bengali ... :) Its a sweet language after all .. :)

Here on this blog I shall try to give some interesting music I have found, Some interesting things happening around, and also some insight of my performances, back stage experiences and pics  etcetc... :) Hope you shall enjoy these...:)

Just have returned from a fantastic concert. With Colin DCruz on Bass, Toni Dias on Keyboards and Charu Phadake on Tabla... What lovely musicians! Kushal was there specially to take pics... so am quite curious now!!!


Midnight now.... Happy birthday Panditji.... 91 ! His performing career is longer than most of our ages! Pt. Ravi Shankar.... The God of Sitar!!
